As a youngster, some of my fondest memories were coming home after school, sitting on the couch and watching G.I. Joe: A Precise American Hero on afternoon television. Of course, as with anything we loved as a child, sometimes the rose colored glasses invent the cartoon survey a limited better twenty-five years ago than it does today…there are definite parts of the Sunbow cartoon era that do build me chuckle, now that I’m in my 30’s, but that’s no reason to turn your succor on a share of animation history.

Back in those days you couldn’t disclose an inspiring anecdote quite as maturely as you can today. Stuff like Batman: The Sharp Series, The Simpsons, or even Clone Wars wasn’t something cartoon writers or producers could even contemplate about, so the folks unhurried the scenes at the production company had to figure out how they could philosophize a epic about soldiers fighting terrorists without death or without bullets. The ruin result was an inspiring adventure that seemed more shipshape hero than military and was, of course, quite campy for a military action/adventure. But if you consume a closer spy you can contemplate, even amongst the conveniently timed parachutes and outlandish colored lasers, that this was actually a smartly written demonstrate, especially geared towards the under-10 crowd.

Beyond that, though, there’s a heaping helping of nostalgia, a nice taste of simpler times where apt and imperfect were a lot more clearly defined. Where you could sit down and behold your action figures jump around on the TV shroud for 22 minutes without looking for deeper meaning aside from wondering what rhymes Roadblock was going to near up with, or how Cobra Commander could possibly screw things up worse than he had the previous episode. The cartoon was ludicrous, but it was fantastically ludicrous, and it gave birth to a whole generation of G.I. Joe fans who identify with the characters born on mask.

The best thing is, this position has EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Every last “Cobra, RETREAT!!!” uttered by Cobra Commander. Every last “Yo, Joe!” by Duke or Gung Ho. Every octive of that catchy theme song that folks know so well, and every “Vivid is Half the Battle!” spoken by each character. Two paunchy seasons, a wealth of 5-parters, and more special features than you can shake a stick at, this boxed situation has about everything you could inspect for in a Sunbow Series collection. While G.I. Joe: The Movie from 1987 is noticeably absent, there is even a slot for it amongst the jewel cases, and even without that dubious ruin to the Sunbow era, this is one beefy and complete collection of attractive goodness from the 80’s.

Whether your a child of the 80’s trying to relive your youth, an adult who impartial saw The Rise of Cobra, and want to recognize G.I. Joe’s history, or most importantly, a parent who wants some wholesome and palatable entertainment for your recent young Joe fan, this spot is a can’t miss proposition. The best, the worst, and everything in between, whatever you want to know about the G.I. Joe cartoon you can accumulate in these discs. I cannot recommend it enough!

I got this location abet then as an uncommon capture at SDCC. I’m amazed by the details and extensive bonus features. Most of all, the complete series of GI JOE are aloof in one box. Tremendous bonus features,especially men & women of action. Really explains the development and production of this engrossing series. This has been my kids’ Saturday morning TV programing lately.

We got the previous shoddy none-complete Rhino release, those bonus features aren’t really relevant to the recent intelligent series. Terrible represent quality. But this original situation is awesome! My recommendation: Vast THUMBS UP. Gay that I got it early at SDCC because I saw the position on other sites for powerful higher ticket.

“Ken Park” has been controversial because of its explicit presentation of trusty sexual acts by actors portraying high school kids and because it has been banned in some English-speaking countries and has no distributor in the others. I suspect that the notoriety has overshadowed the sincere merits of the film.

The space is presented as several intercut stories. The stories themselves are almost completely isolated from one another aside from the fact that all the characters know each other quite well. The stories progress parallel to one another, and the characters have absolutely no interaction with one another until the next to last sequence. That scene may summarize the favorite attitude that prevails among these teenagers, but it doesn’t pack grand of a punch. In fact the whole movie doesn’t pack worthy of a punch. I’m not determined it really tries to. It simply tells these stories directly with not true judgments and lets them loose for the audience to obtain of them what they will.

That is not to say that the performances are veteran. They aren’t. Most of the young actors had only marginal prior experience in film acting, but they gave decent, workmanlike performances that were perfectly adequate. The supporting adult actors were better, but they generously avoided overshadowing the less experienced actors. So there’s not any mismatch within the cast.

The cinematography, art direction, and editing don’t call attention to themselves which in this movie is a advantageous thing. The special effects in the violent scenes are believable and seamless. I liked the intention the film looked.

So the film did not seem to be exploitive, prurient, or coy (like some of Larry Clark’s earlier films were) .

Taken in its entirety, the movie is pleasing grand and better than most of Larry Clark’s earlier films.

Ken Park was a really well done film it holds up to the Larry Clark standards some scenes were graphic and kind off made you believe to your self whats up with this movie but over all it is worth watching!

My Dream Is Yours was designed to be a vehicle for up and coming star Doris Day–and it worked! This stunning musical has numerous very well done song and dance numbers and the station moves along at a salubrious rush. The convincing acting impressed me, too.

The action starts when a snooty crooner named Gary Mitchell (Lee Bowman) refuses to resign a radio contract even though his agent Doug Blake (Jack Carson) worked distinguished hard to fetch that contract for him. Gary even walks out on his agent–and the radio demonstrate when the weak contract is up, thinking he can do better elsewhere. This leaves Doug is a enormous predicament as his employer Thomas Hutchins (Adolphe Menjou) and the radio point to sponsor Felix Hofer (S.Z. Sakall) have no star for their radio note.

Doug and all are desperate; and Doug goes to Recent York City to derive a recent, recent faced star for the radio reveal to replace Gary Mitchell. Look for Eve Arden as Doug’s friend Vivian Martin who inevitably gets stuck paying the tab as Doug tries everything to find Martha noticed and hopefully then on the radio demonstrate sponsored by Hofer. In addition, Doris Day as Martha Gibson sings a number of songs so beautifully it’s sure why she was a rising star!

What does happen to Martha? Will Doug earn her on the expose to replace Gary–Hofer doesn’t even want to talk with Doug. Hutchins is also very skeptical; and Doug and Martha go everywhere else looking for work as a result. What happens when Doug discovers that Martha is a war widow with a young son to abet? Martha also develops feelings for Gary–will she and Gary marry? This could cause complications because Doug develops feelings for Martha. No spoilers here, folks–just search for the movie and win out!

The choreography is gracious in the scenes in the radio state and at The Cocoanut Grove; the cinematography shines in these scenes and the shots of Los Angeles and Hollywood are all very nicely done. The Technicolor works very well.

The DVD comes with a few extras; we secure a cute one reel short entitled So You Want To Be An Actor; and there’s the theatrical trailer as well.

In short, My Dream Is Yours provides us with quite a few very elegant musical numbers–including that laughable dance sequence with Doris Day, Jack Carson and Bugs Bunny! The acting is mountainous and the chronicle holds your interest. I highly recommend this film for fans of classic movie musicals.

Doris Day’s second motion portray was entitled “My Dream is Yours” and it was released by the Brothers Warner in 1949. In a market filled with scores of film releases, it rapidly found a situation as a very common drama with music. Carson, fed up with the temperemental shenanigans of his radio headliner Bowman decides to pick up and earn a original star. Miss Day, as Martha Gibson, a newly war-widowed single mother, is the young gal he decides is ripe for stardom. As Martha, Doris Day manages to assert a variety of songs in assorted styles, whether belting out in a rather Betty Hutton manner with the upbeat “Geiger Counter Song”, doing a pleasing turn with “Someone Like You” or delighting in a charming involving sequence with Carson called “Wake Up Freddy” spot to the tune of “The Hungarian Rhapsody”. Her most inspiring song, however, is the customary standard, “I’ll String Along With You” which she delivers in a glowing sequence, singing it to her young son. She also peruse magnificent in this lovingly crafted production.
Jack Carson does a variation of his usual characterization but as in all his films with Day, her warmth seems to tone down some of his occasionally irritating traits. Eve Arden plays her usual wise-cracking and delectable self and in color and a heavenly wardrobe, never looked better. Bowman, as notorious earlier, plays a basically unsympathetic role but his scenes with Day have an underlying intensity and electricity that gain them work very well.
“My Dream is Yours” which captures the magic and excitement of Hollywood in those unruffled magical years legal after the war, is considerable more than a musical bon bon. There are elements of “A Star is Born” and other filmland based dramas that give it a depth far greater than it’s sunshine title might suggest.
The film is a resplendent step in the evolution that turned Doris Day into America’s sweetheart and you’ll accept yourself having “Day Dreams” by the film’s final imprint.

In a culture desensitized by violent brutality and computer-generated wizardry, it may be enough to say that I watched The Holy Mountain, which contains neither, with my mouth hanging launch the entire time. I unexcited can’t quite occupy that such a film was ever made, though I’ve long sensed that such a film should be. While not overtly violent, The Holy Mountain is punctuated by graphic, monstrous and heretical images, but these only gain one aspect of its jaw-dropping resonance. Jodorowsky’s film is current, gallant, visually and thematically inspired. It’s also kind of comical.

In essence the film is a series of literalized metaphors about the archetypal spiritual swagger to experience reality beyond illusion, a quest motivated by a desire to transcend the absurd horrors of civilization: war, greed, corruption, self-obsession and the politics of power. As such the characters and events themselves are largely symbolic. Unlike a lot of avant-garde films, Holy Mountain’s record is structured and surprisingly linear, though it flowers like a rambling, slightly disjointed dream.

Jodorowsky’s spiritual path is an unflinching synthesis of the basic conceptual and exquisite elements of many mystical traditions, including Zen’s formal simplicity, Kabbalic and Hindu ritual, Alchemical processes, Shamanic trials, master/student dynamics and the mythology of the Holy Mountain itself, all of which are gracefully blended into the artful and psychedelic texture of the film.

Despite the clichéd “aged wisdom” aspect of some moments, The Holy Mountain achieves what is a fairly original and ultimately tongue-in-cheek attempt to divulge the audience. Sometimes the pacing and editing of the film feel a small dated, but this usually adds to the film’s fresh style rather than diminish it. The Holy Mountain is an ambitious film, arresting in its boldness and charming in its outlandishness, and traveling with these seekers will undoubtedly color our enjoy journeys, both inner and outer…

I have now purchased a copy of The Films of Alejandro Jodorowski and I give this film even a higher recommendation than I did before. The DVD is generous, and it’s a nice plus to hurry Jodorowski’s commentary track as subtitles on the film itself, since the commentary is in Spanish anyway.

El Topo was about a man seeking enlightenment and was made before Jodorowsky had ever smoked marijuana or taken LSD. The Holy Mountain is the attempt to negate the entire society. To prepare, he found a Guru, who gave him LSD. Then after he had gathered his cast, he took them on a three month retreat to prepare, and the film itself seems to have taken six months to shoot. When I met Jodorowsky in 2003, he called El Topo his common son; The Holy Mountain his frightened son; and Santa Sangre his perfect son. All three are necessary works. Jodorowsky truly is Alexandro the Huge.

Holy Mountain is not about being high, it is about seeing through all illusions, of which getting high very mighty is one of those illusions. It is a tremendous satire of the novel world in which the Alchemist (played by Alexandro himself) finds the most base people in the solar system, and then takes them on a quest that pacifies them by promising immortality - unbiased like the regular religions!

For a film that does not go “inside” any of the characters — we glimpse them in beautifully framed compositions — it is very easy to follow and never lets the viewer down. In the extinguish, he even reveals the secret of immortality. “And here we are — mortals, more human than ever.”

I believe I should designate that Richard Rutowski, who worked with Oliver Stone on several of his most attractive works (like The Doors, Nixon, and U Turn), plays the character Axon.

I absorb The Holy Moutain may be the most perfect Utopian vision ever save on film.

And if someone tried to create a film like this today, they’d probably be arrested.

“I Am Memoir” is not a film that sticks closely to it’s source material. While that is it’s biggest flaw, it is also where it shines. If you ha told me two years ago that I’d gain misty-eyed watching Will Smith announce “Three Minute Birds” in a broad budget motion narrate I’d have laughed myself droll, but this adaptation of Richard Mathson’s untouchable original that -while itself being a vampire story- inspired the entire zombie film genre as we know it takes the record we all know whether we’ve read the book or not and turns it into an exceptionally personal affair for all of us. One man. One dog. A familiar metropolis deserted by day, but crawling with death by nightfall. This is our setting and it’s one that never gets feeble for me.

The plague that wipes out Robert Neville’s world is never fully explained, simply inferred to be the result of some sort of failed cure for cancer. Gone from the fresh and the unusual Vincent Impress classic, The Last Man on Earth, is the long struggle of Neville to establish his ill daughter, his wife’s tranformation, and the monstrous actions of the US government to fill the plague. What it left is simply one man, alone trying to acquire his sanity and hopelessly searching for a cure to a disease that has already wiped humanity off the face of the earth and left the “survivors” as rabid vampiric horrors. It’s gloomy, it’s pathetic, and it’s perfectly human. Will Smith has a penchant for picking awful, schmaltzy films to star in, but no one can hiss his talent and charisma as a leading man. Naturally, this is a film he must carry single-handedly and he does an awesome job of it; he’s dramatic, he’s relateable, and at times, he is droll. The humor is that of the black and atrocious kind, but in a world like his, that is all there is left.

The vampires/zombies/infected in this are all CG and more than a bit reminiscent of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I’m not a fan of these kind of effects when practical would have been more effective and was acutely aware of the fact that I watching computer-generated monsters, but they worked nonetheless. The infected exhibit to be frightening foes for Neville to face, combining suprising cunning, inhuman strength, and impossible agility (hence the CG) . Their only weakness is that sunlight kills them almost instantly. Neville plays a game of cat-and-mouse with them, gathering supplies, researching cure, and searching for survivors by day while making certain to regain succor to his fortified apartment before nightfall when the creatures approach out to hunt for his hiding plot. More than a few shades of 28 Days Later are indicate in this film, which is laughable considering the book and it’s film offspring are largely what provided the elements of that film. So I guess the genre has officially arrive paunchy circle now.

Ultimately, it’s the personal touches that acquire “I Am Account” such a treat. Bob Marley provides both the soundtrack to Robert Neville’s day and the inspiration for his work, which is both ironic and uplifting at times. This may sound unusual for a dismay flick, but if you are a fan of Marley (himself a Sage) it makes all the sense in the world as you see. Watching Neville attempt to interact with mannequins he’s location up as he returns the movies he rents (in alphabetical order, one at a time) and seeing him snap when one of the figures is moved is both funny and, at times, intensely disturbing. When relief finally comes, Neville finds he has lost the ability to interact with other humans at all and is relegated to performing lines from “Shrek”, which is playing on his television at the time. The ending is a complete 180 from the book which is disappointing, but not as corny as it could have been. The current I Am Chronicle has one of the most shimmering and darkly ironic endings ever set on paper, but director Francis Lawrence didn’t demolish it by go for the blissful ending either. The result is a compromise between the pitch blackness of the book and the cloying cheese that many Will Smith fans adore. It turns out a bittersweet and hopeful conclsion that should satisfy both while not thrilling either. But I left the theater with “Redemption Song” tranquil ringing in my ears and a overjoyed feeling. If only every movie could do that for me.

“I Am Chronicle” fails to adapt the book of the same name to the expansive cloak, but succeeds in so many other ways. I can’t give it a perfect secure, but I will give it a very hearty recommendation to fans of Will Smith, zombies, vampires, and Bob Marley. Delight In.

I Am Chronicle can’t accumulate a radiant shake. This Will Smith-led production is the third attempt Hollywood has made to adapt the knowing original. None of the adaptions have truly done the original justice (which is a shame), but this version has advance the closest.

Here we have a shining beginning; footage of a scientist (played beautifully by Emma Thompson) saying humbly that she’s discovered a draw to cure cancer. Speedy forward a few years, and Fresh York is utterly devoid of human life, establish for Robert Neville (Will Smith) . As the first half of the film progresses, we learn about his meager living, spending the day harvesting and trying to peruse a cure, even now, while spending the night huddled in his protected home as creatures prowl.

His only companion, a fantastic dog named Sam, protects Neville as Neville protects him. They have a friendship based on loneliness and the human need for someone or something to have onto. Sam is Neville’s only connection to the past and the only intention to narrate what runt humanity is left, either in the world or Neville himself. This period in the movie is pitch perfect, puncuated by one or two ugly sequences that instill noble panic.

Unfortunately, the last half of the film deteriorates into an action movie that completely changes the meaning of the words “I Am Anecdote.” Don’t bag me gross, it’s mostly done really well. Constantine director Francis Lawrence has a safe handle on the action and delivers some suited scenes. But, it becomes muddled and veers off completely from the original. My biggest complaint, though, is the utilize of CGI. Instead of using accurate flesh and blood actors, all of the creatures are created with CG and they peep incredibly erroneous when lined up next to steady people. In the beginning, it’s not a plight but as you explore more of them (and you will) it’s glaringly clear. And annoying.

All of this I was expecting going in, though. Considering that the film was co-written by Akiva Goldsman who also wrote I, Robot, I knew this version would stray from the source material unbiased as I, Robot did. As a movie, it’s genuinely thrilling and creates the perfect balance of tension and action through most of its entirety. And, surprisingly, Will Smith shows that he’s a really valid actor as he has to not only tackle many conflicting emotions during the two hour race time but he also has to do so without having great of anyone to react to. Spending a friendly hour or so without another single actor for Will Smith to work with was a gamble and it paid off.

Your enjoyment of the film is entirely based on what you bring to the table. If you’re coming to this film expecting to notice the book reach to life you’ll be sorely disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a safe action movie that actually has a beneficial record and a human aspect, you’ll be hard-pressed to glean one as thrilling recently.

This Rugrats DVD celebrates ten years of extraordinary adventures on Nickelodeon. The ten episodes included in this retrospective were handpicked by the fans themselves as the cream of the carve. Episodes include “Angelica Orders Out,” “The First Slice,” “Reptar On Ice,” “No Bones About It,” “Be My Valentine,” “Chuckie vs. The Potty,” “Doctor Susie,” “Vacation Special,” “Finsterella,” and “Bigger Than Life.” Plus, you regain bonuses. I loved these episodes so gave this 4 stars. I would have liked to peruse a Seasons box sets though instead of all these greatest episodes DVD’s.
